The midfielder grabbed an assist in the victory when he teed up Josh Gentles in the second period, and, like the team itself, he has began the campaign strongly.
He was on the scoresheet in the side’s previous league outing against Hearts with a rasping effort and came off the bench in last week’s KDM Evolution Trophy opener against Gala Fairydean Rovers.
Speaking to RangersTV after the win over Thistle, the teenager commented: “Games are what you want to play.
“Training is games focussed and you want to go out and show what you can do.
“It was a different test last week against a senior side and not one that we’re used to, but again I thought we did well.
“I feel confident. The boys really help, and it’s a team thing. I just take it day-by-day, try to get better each day, and show my best qualities on the pitch.”
On the performance last night, Fernie continued: “We played well and controlled most of the game.
“I felt in the first half we could’ve finished more chances and been more efficient, but I thought overall we did well and Sam [Reid] made some good saves too.
“The second half became a little bit scrappy, but I thought we dealt well with it and got the result in the end.”
The young Gers are back in KDM Evolution Trophy action in six days’ time when they make the trip to face Bonnyrigg Rose.
Like the Glasgow Cup, it is an important competition in the development of the players, and Fernie hopes the side’s togetherness will stand them in good stead.
He added: “I thought last year we could have done better [in the competition], but it was a good experience and something new.
“I feel like this campaign we really want to push on, get wins, and go as far in the tournament as possible.
“Even in the tough moments, when we went 3-0 down against Hearts, we stuck together and got back to 3-3.
“My personal targets? I just want to get better every day, get more goals and assists, and be able to impact the game.
“I feel as if I’ve been doing that, so I want to keep going.”
