With a 2-2 draw at Ibrox last Tuesday evening, the tie is finely balanced as both teams bid for a place in the group stage of the competition.
Cantwell insists he has never given up the dream of playing in Europe’s elite competition. Sitting down at the pre-match press conference, he said: “I don't think there's any secret. It is every player's dream to play in the Champions League and we had a little taste of it. We have the play-offs now and we are looking forward to tomorrow night.
“As a player you have got to believe in yourself, you have got to believe in your ability and I feel I speak for most players in the changing room when I say you want to play in these competitions, so it is an excitement for me.
“You certainly want to maximise the opportunities that you get, you shouldn't take any for granted. Every game at Rangers is a big game, an important game and I think it is our responsibility to show that.”
With PSV having a large share of the possession at Ibrox last week, Cantwell knows Rangers may have to show another side to their game but is confident they can.
He continued: “In this competition you are going to play against good teams, you are going to play against teams that have the ball, and it is important that we show we have got another side to us.
“We can be in good shape, and we can hurt on the counter, and I think we showed that last week. All good teams have both to their capabilities, playing with the ball and obviously being a danger without it.”
Tomorrow evening’s second-leg is a repeat of last season’s play-off round, which also finished 2-2 in the opening game at Ibrox, with Rangers progressing to the group stages with a 1-0 victory in Eindhoven.
When asked if last year has been spoken about in the dressing room, Cantwell said focus is firmly on the game which lies ahead.
He continued: “That is the past, we don't want to focus on that, that is what happened last year.
“We can leave other people to think about what happened before but for us that changes nothing. Tomorrow night it doesn't matter who won last year, tomorrow night it matters about who wins tomorrow so for us there is no focus on what happened before.”
