Tomorrow evening’s UEFA Europa League Group C fixture away to Sparta Prague is only the manager’s second match in charge, and Cantwell said the squad are excited for the future under the Belgian.
Speaking at this evening’s pre-match press conference, he said: “As a player you are going to go through periods where you experience different managers and different styles.
“We were going through a tough period and it was difficult for the boys and for everyone. Since the boss has come in, he has implemented the way he wants to play, he has made it clear that it is not going to happen overnight, I don't think anyone has got the power to do that, but as a squad we are all in. We are looking forward to the games and we got off to a great start, so we are excited.”
Cantwell returned to the pitch for the first time in six weeks as he came off the bench in Saturday’s 4-0 victory over Hibernian at Ibrox. He believes he is in a good place heading into another important European fixture.
He continued: “ I had a good period out, but I feel in a good place, it was obviously nice to get some game time at the weekend and physically I feel good. It is something that has probably been a base of my game for a long time in terms of my overall fitness, so I am hoping that I am in a good enough position.
“It was really difficult being out, the results took a turn for the worst and when you are injured you feel a little bit helpless. Although you are in and around the changing room you can't really affect anything that is happening.
“It was difficult, but we have to move forward now, and we started the first game with a really good result, and we are looking forward to getting out there tomorrow.”
When asked about Rangers’ ambitions in Europe this season, Cantwell said: “I think the important thing when you play for a club like Rangers is that you put your personal feelings aside, it is really important playing for this club that everything is built around the team and what happens out there tomorrow.
“Naturally everyone at Rangers, or associated with Rangers, wants to go as far as we can and history would show we have done well in this competition, so with a lot of new faces we want to try and emulate that or do one better.”
