The 24-year-old is looking forward to Sunday’s match but knows Rangers will have to be focused as they come up to the Championship side.
Speaking to the media at this afternoon’s pre-match press conference, he said: “I think every competition we are involved in is equally as important but certainly the message I have received is that this is obviously going to be a tough game at the weekend.
“It is the same whatever league you play in, when a team plays in a lower division, they will give it absolutely everything and we have got to be ready for that and we have got full focus on the game.
“One thing I haven't questioned since I have been here is the drive and I think it is really quite apparent being in and around the dressing room and even in training to be honest. The winning mentality is there which is brilliant because then you don't have to talk to try and get it out of each other it is already there.
“For some of the senior boys that are here it is embedded in them, so I think they are just spreading that around and it is actually becoming a lesson for everyone that this is how it is here.”
Reflecting on his first few weeks at Rangers, Cantwell believes there have been ‘good building-blocks’ as he continues to grow his relationships with his teammates.
He added: “I have really enjoyed myself so far, I have been involved in three games and we have won three so it has been a good start and some good building blocks for me personally in terms of fitness, so I am enjoying myself.
“It is not going to be something that clicks in the next week or so. It is going to take a little bit of time like I'm sure it does for any player, but I think in terms of genuine understanding it is really getting to a good place and it is the kind of relationships that can only improve.
“I have enjoyed everything really, I've enjoyed the whole experience of being in and around the training ground and having a manager with fresh ideas. I’m enjoying the journey of integrating with my teammates and stuff like that. It has been a real good freshen up that I definitely needed.”
Cantwell says the game in Scotland is similar to what he had expected after his conversations with the manager prior to joining the club.
He continued: “I don't know if it has surprised me too much because I was told about it but I think the teams coming to Ibrox you can stop the game at multiple points where there are 11 players pretty much on the edge of their box.
“It makes it difficult but that is the challenge we have to accept and at a club like Rangers we need to find a way to win the games which we have done.
“I didn't come the day after the manager spoke to me, we had a period where we worked things out and we spoke about things and there was great detail behind what we spoke about. I feel like I had a pretty good understanding about what it was I was signing up to when I decided to sign on the line, so it is definitely good for me and I am glad I have joined.”
