ANDREW CAVENAGH has spoken about his disappointment at how his first season as Rangers Chairman ended.
Cavenagh addressed the media this morning as he reviewed his first campaign at the helm since taking over the club.
He knows the Rangers supporters expect better and he, along with the Board and Head Coach Danny Röhl, are determined to put things right.
Speaking to the media, he said: “It has been a rough season.
“We’re incredibly disappointed with the results, as I'm sure you would expect, and responsibility for that is with no one other than ownership, the board, me and Paraag Marathe.
“In a good organisation, a strong organisation, the blame goes up, not down when we look at where we’re going from here, it’s crystal clear to us.
“At this club, success is winning titles. You don’t win a title, you haven’t succeeded. And it can’t be any simpler than that.
“We will not stop until we have succeeded. As we look to next year, Danny is our coach.
“We believe that Danny gives us the best chance to win the league next year.
“We believe that there are two key elements that he needs to succeed, and that would be a revamped squad, which is probably the most important and a pre-season.
“He obviously came in mid-season. In terms of revamping the squad, we look at our squad and say we have a bunch of good players.
“We have a good squad, and we’ve proven that in fits and spurts throughout the season.
“But we don’t yet have a good team and that is our focus this summer, is in building a winning team.
“So, our focus will be less about sort of raw talent and more about things like chemistry and leadership, and steel, and footballing IQ, if that’s a phrase that translates.
“So we are excited to make those adjustments to the squad.”
It has been a year of change on and off the park, but Cavenagh believes having people who understand the club is vital - starting with recently appointed Chief Executive Jim Gillespie.
He added: “When we think about the club itself, we have talked about Rangers DNA, we have talked about people who will get their fingernails dirty.
“We’ve made a lot of changes inside the club that are probably both visible and invisible.
“A great example of visibility would be Jim is now our CEO, and I think we are making good strides inside the club, to get it to where it can create the infrastructure for the success for the men’s first-team.
“Again, success is winning titles. We didn’t succeed but we intend to succeed and our job is to take the club forward and find that success.”
