The Gers take on Hearts this Sunday at Hampden Stadium as they look to overcome their opponents for the second time in a week as they target a fifth domestic win in a row.
Speaking to the media in this afternoon’s press conference before the semi-final the manager says the team can take confidence from a positive midweek showing as they look to seal a return to the national stadium in December.
He said: “I want them to be ambitious to become better. It is not that it was the perfect performance, we can do things better than that performance, but you seen that they start to understand more and more of the story of what we want to do.
“It becomes more fluent and also more players stepping in and getting experience in how to move together, what to do with the ball and without it. Like this we need to strengthen the team and let the team grow.
“It is always good to get confidence of course but it is never a guarantee for things. We need to confirm, do what we have been doing in these last two weeks. We know it is a hard challenge, we had to experience it already less than a week ago against them. It is a big game and everybody needs to be ready for that.”
The Belgian wants his players to have firm focus on another victory come Sunday afternoon and not to look ahead of themselves as they look to main an impressive start to life under their new head coach.
He continued: “It is just focusing on the game and not to think about silverware and how many games to get a trophy. It is focusing for the players on the task that they need to do, in their position what they need to do together with and without the ball and putting all our energy into that.
“Football stays a game and that is a little bit different than other collective sports like basketball, volleyball or these sports when you are really dominant and the better team.
“We need to be focused on everything we need to do and to force the result, that is the way we need to do it. To be ambitious for everything and not to be focused on medals or things like that, they will come if you do the good things.
“They need to be focused to try to do the perfect thing that the team needs every time. Also for them to be brave and not to have fear to make mistakes because it is an important part in football.
“If you don't make mistakes you are not brave, you don't do good things, but it important how you react afterwards. That I want to give to my players and that is what I have been seeing now these last two weeks what they are showing on the field.”
