The boss outlined his key visions in what he hopes to achieve as he takes the hotseat after he was appointed as the club’s 19th permanent manager.
Speaking to the media in this afternoon’s press conference alongside chief executive James Bisgrove, he said:
“The fans are a major point at this club. When you have 50,000 people behind you, it gives so much energy and you become stronger in every sense as a football player. It's very important to create the synergy between the fans and players, and it will be a major point over the coming weeks.
"It's about me explaining this to the players and doing the right things on the pitch. I hope the fans also know how much power they have when they go behind the players.”
“I am really delighted to be here; it has been a few hectic days but that is normal. If you step in at this part of the season it is always different than when you do it at the end of the season and you have six or seven weeks of preparation, but it is not the first time like that.
"I knew what would happen, I am really delighted to be here, you see an iconic stadium as a club with a lot of fans and that was one of the things I was looking for.”
The manager expressed the style of football he is hoping to implement at the club as he pinpointed his ambition for the future in Glasgow.He continued: “I want to play dominant football. I did it with the first ever team that I managed, Waasland-Beveren. It was a team who fought against relegation in the Belgian league, but we played dominant football.
"It was about pushing the players at the start because no-one in the squad believed it. I want to play attacking football with a lot of changing of positions and players creating space for other players, but out of a good structure so as you don't give away too many transitions and silly goals.
“It's about putting the right goals towards the games. I want players who are not afraid to make mistakes; it's part of football. There isn't a team in the world, not even the best, who are perfect in everything that they do, but they're really perfect in the reaction afterwards. If they make a mistake, they react directly.
"We don't have a lot of time; we will see the team for another two days then we have the game, so I don't expect it to be perfect. But out of that we can work on the things we did really well, and the things that weren't so good.
“There are four very important pillars in the way that I want to see a team. My ambition is to create the best technical, tactical, physical and mental in the league. I know that results will follow if we do that, but it's going to take time to work”.
The Belgian has stressed on a positive few weeks ahead as he looks to get the most out of his players moving forward.
He added: “I just work day and night really hard with the players, to get the best out of them, then you need to get results on the pitch, sometimes you have lucky days and sometimes you have unlucky days.
"I am somebody who looks passed that, I know with the story that we have a way of working that it needs a bit of time to implement everything and that is normal because you speak about players moving together.
“You speak about offensive football but you need to automatise that, you need a lot of training around that before it becomes natural for the players. Sometimes it goes fast and sometimes it takes a little bit more time.
"In all the teams that I have been in, but at the end everywhere they were the results, goals and the good games so I know it will come. The potential for me that is here in the club, with the potential that is here in the dressing room and with the ambition that the club has also for the future, to make the right decisions, if some positions need to be strengthened.”
