The Portuguese side have never lost a Europa League tie in Lisbon, so the Ibrox gaffer is well aware of the challenge that faces his squad.
While some people might believe the European adventure could be a distraction for his players, Clement doesn’t agree.
He said: “Is this game a distraction? No.
“Some people in December told me before our European game with Real Betis that it was more important to win the League Cup.
“Everyone wanted to win the trophy, but after our night in Spain they were really happy and after winning the Cup they were happier to have both.
“But I told them I never work that way. I want players who are hungry in every occasion and want to win every occasion.
“We have a busy schedule, but we work hard to get the players ready and the players have to show they are ready for the competition.
“We have come to win. I never start a game to lose or to play for a draw. I don’t believe in that.
“I never park the bus, even with smaller teams in Madrid or against PSG, we always attacked to win games.
“We always fight to create chances, but like we did in Spain we defended well and attacked to create chances.
“We have to defend well as Benfica have a lot of quality.
“Benfica have never lost a Europa League game at home so it is a nice challenge.
“I know for that, we need to be on our toes and perform well, have a bit of luck and a very good goalkeeper.
“We want to win, but if we are in the last ten minutes and we feel it is important to defend a result we will, we are not naïve. But we want to have a result to take to Ibrox.”
Clement is without four wingers for the last-16 clash, but Ross McCausland was on the plane to Portugal.
The Rangers gaffer says he won’t use it as an excuse as his only concern is to find a solution against a side looking to respond after two straight defeats.
He added: “Benfica are a good team with a lot of quality.
“We know they will want a reaction after recent results and at clubs like Benfica there is a lot of expectation and I don’t doubt it will be a good team they have tomorrow.
“This is a huge, exciting challenge. In this case we need to be realistic, they have more than double our budget, but we are really ambitious to try to qualify.
“We are convinced it isn’t about money, but a lot of other things and we will work really hard in the next two games.
“We are missing four wingers, Ross McCausland did individual work, so we will see if he is available.
“We are missing two playmakers and a striker which is a lot of offensive quality so it is about finding other solutions.
“Getting a result here would be a good thing.”
