It was a hard-fought victory at Tynecastle, with Hearts equalising early in the second-half, but Clement’s men rallied to get the three points.
Speaking to RangersTV at full-time, the manager said: “It was super important to react after the big disappointment of last week. It was not our most sexy game, but everybody dug in and that is the basic. We need this every time, we created enough today to win this game, and you saw the fighting spirit of the whole group.
“It is easy to stay disappointed and not react, so we had a lot of meetings last week around that collectively and individually and the players reacted. As a Rangers player you cannot lose games like last week, but we had to react and to react in the right way and to fight.
“Hearts are a good team, they were eight games undefeated, they have a really good home record so to win here is a very important point and it shows also the mentality that can be in the team and it is about getting this out every game.”
Goalkeeper Jack Butland came up with some big saves this afternoon, particularly in the first-half at Tynecastle and Clement praised the performance of his number one. He added: “We know the qualities of Jack, he was Player of the Year last season and it is important if the bar is there to win every game you need a really good goalkeeper.
“There is not one team in the world doing that without having a good goalkeeper, so we count on him in that way.”
Looking forward, Clement said the squad must continue to kick-on as attention now turns to St Mirren at Ibrox on Saturday.
He added: “We can’t be satisfied after this, we have to kick-on, the team needs to kick-on. We have been drilling the mentality that is needed to be at Rangers in the heads for months.
“It has been more consistent, it is a pity that this cup game falls in between because otherwise 2025 would've been really good, but it was not good enough last week, and you cannot have one moment that you lower your standards so I will keep drilling this message.”
