Goals from John Lundstram, Cyriel Dessers, James Tavernier and Scott Wright ensured Rangers’ place in the fifth round draw, and the manager was pleased with how they dealt with the difficult conditions in Dumbarton.
Speaking to RangersTV at full-time, he said: “The team played a professional game. It was very difficult circumstances to play good football but still we scored a few really good goals. We had some other chances also and we were never in trouble so that is important in these cup games.
“It is always dangerous, I saw this afternoon that Hearts had to fight until the last few minutes to get the decisive goal but we were in control the whole game, so job done.
“If you want to win cups you need to win games like these in these circumstances and we are looking forward to the draw and what will be the next game.”
Clement says the squad must be able to adapt to reach their goals and said it is one of the things he demands as they overcame the League Two side this evening.
He continued: “For me that is the only way we will reach our goals and to be competitive in all three competitions. You need players who want to adapt, we don't need players who can only play on perfect pitches because it will not be perfect all the time.
“That is one of the main things of being a winner is always to adapt to the circumstances to get the goal.
“Tomorrow the players have a free day, it is a long time since they have had a free day so they will recover a bit and then on Monday and Tuesday we will be preparing well for the Hibs game.”
