After going behind in the second-half, Rangers responded quickly through a fine finish from Cyriel Dessers, in what was a positive display in Athens.
Speaking to RangersTV at full-time Clement said: “The performance deserved more than the point, but it was a good performance, the team stuck to the plan for the 90 minutes.
"The players worked really hard without the ball, we played a really good defensive game, and we almost didn't give away anything. It is a pity with that one chance they scored, but our reaction was also good.
“That is a major thing for our squad to learn these lessons. We had it with the squad last season, they picked up this mentality of never giving up and digging in when the result didn't go our way and that is the mentality I want to see every time.
“I am happy that they feel it now, they felt it in the semi-final of the cup when we went behind, but it is about continuing and working hard to get the result and to force the result which is what they did today.
"It would've been the perfect evening if we scored the second goal which I think we deserved.”
On the defensive display, Clement continued: “Everyone was working really hard for the team, the defenders, midfield but also our attacking players. Everyone did their job for 90 minutes and that needs to be our basics for the rest of the season.
“We learned some harsh lessons in the last couple of weeks, so we need to continue doing this. These are our basics, and we need to see that every game.
With some good chances falling the way of Dessers in the first-half, the manager praised his mentality and said it is important the squad continue to show that.
He added: “That is the mentality they all need to have, that is Rangers, whatever goes wrong in one moment, we need to fight and to dig in if it doesn't go our way.
“We need to force the results and on good days like in Malmo you can have the first goal and then things are much easier, and opponents need to come, and you are more efficient but we need to dig in every three days because every lost point or lost game it is a drama we know.”
With seven points from the opening four matches, Clement reflected on the start to the league phase as it reached the midway point. He said: “I think performance wise we did a lot of good things, against Lyon we started well but later on in the game we had more difficulty.
“We are now further than we were at that point and the three other games were good performances.
"Like I said, the next step to take is to play games like this and to win them by being more efficient so we are going to continue working hard with the whole group to go to that level.”
