With week one of pre-season complete, the manager sat down for an exclusive interview with RangersTV to outline his plans with the squad for the next few weeks.
The Light Blues will travel to Holland for a camp, with an exciting schedule of friendlies announced in the build-up to the league opener at Tynecastle in August.
On what he is looking to see from his players in these early stages, Clement said: “Firstly we need to build the physical condition, the team missed that a lot of last season, they were not prepared for a high intensity game every three days and because of that we had a lot of injuries so we need to train really hard to prepare them really well.
“Not only with ball exercises and running but also with a lot of exercises to strengthen their bodies. We are going to use this period well for that so I can say to all the fans the players will work really hard in the next couple of weeks to be stronger again next season.
“The camp is the third week so that is the heaviest week of the preparation. That is the first week that you can go full intensity in the sprints and in the power.
“We also play really good friendly games. I don't want a preparation where you win everything easily and you don't learn, it is going to be very tough for the players. It is going to be hard training and difficult games, but they need to be challenged when they are tired and to have this mentality to go through that because we will have moments like that in a season and it is the only way to become stronger.
“We will also have individual talks with all the players, every evening with them together with my staff to get to know them better and to set clear goals for every player in what things to improve and what were the good things of last season.”
With Mohamed Diomande, Oscar Cortes, Jefte, Clinton Nsiala, Connor Barron and Liam Kelly joining the squad so far this summer, the manager provided an update on transfer business.
He said: “We already have done a lot of things compared with other teams but that was also necessary. We had five players leaving the building at the end of their contract, so we didn't get any money in that way, and we lost five players.
“We were focused on everything, but it is easier earlier to get the young players in but for the rest of the transfer window there will also be experience coming into the building and we need a good balance in the squad and in the team of both. It was important to find these young talents and I think we have found a few really exciting players for the future for this club.”
On new assistant manager, Andries Ulderink, Clement added: “He is not somebody I knew personally but I heard a lot of good things about him and in the clubs that he was in, and we had really good talks. I wanted to make our coaching staff bigger because we want to focus even more on the individual side of the players to develop them better.
“ I cannot be everywhere at the same moment so it was important to have a really good addition and somebody with a lot of experience, who also has a loud voice, so he will do a good job.”
