Connor Commits Future To Rangers

CONNOR Goldson today agreed a new four-year contract with Rangers, making him the latest experienced head to commit their future to the club.

Hot on the heels of Steven Davis, who signed for a further year, and Scott Arfield, who also tied in for another season, 29 year-old Goldson will remain a Ranger until at least 2026, retaining that core of leaders in the Ibrox dressing room.

Speaking to RangersTV exclusively this afternoon at Ibrox, a delighted Goldson said: "I think it is needed to have those more experienced ones and those leaders to make sure the standards are right every single day.

"That's not just on a matchday, but every day at this football club. It is what is demanded of you and I think that is necessary to have around the place."

Goldson will have a potential new partner next to him in the new season, with John Souttar having officially become a Ranger today.

Added to Souttar, 18 year-old Academy graduate Leon King played his part at the latter part of last season, and Goldson wants to see him progress further alongside him now.

He continued: "John Souttar looks really good and I was impressed with him in the Cup Final and I thought he played really well, and I am looking forward to seeing him when we get back and to seeing what his qualities are.

"He has done well when he has played against us, but it will be good to see him day-in, day-out - I don't think you realise how good players are until you actually see them on an everyday basis.

"Leon is the same - I think he has really stepped up this year and really progressed. He is becoming a man which I think was important for him at such a young age and now he has those first bits of first-team experience, he should be really looking to kick-on this year."

Goldson also spoke of his strong respect and relationship with manager Gio van Bronckhorst.

He added: "I had good conversations with him. In the season he was really good with me and left me alone to make my decision, even when we won the Cup he said he was desperate for me to stay, but he would let the decision be made by me and my family, which I really respected for him to give me that time and have that patience with me.

"But, he has come in and done brilliantly. You look at our run in the Europa League and what we experienced last year as a club - nobody will ever be able to take that away from us but, like we both said on the phone last night, from June 27, it is time to kick on and try to go to the next level."
