Cornet: We Are Focusing On Ourselves

CHELSEA CORNET says full focus in on delivering another three points as Rangers head into Sunday’s first Old Firm showdown of the season.

The Light Blues will make the short trip to the Excelsior Stadium to take on Celtic as they look to leapfrog their rivals in the table with victory.

Speaking to RangersTV in the build-up to the clash the midfielder believes a win in Airdrie would just create further momentum heading into the international break as they target an eighth win in a row.

She said: “Everyone is buzzing, obviously it is a few firsts for some of the squad. Everyone is really excited and looking forward to it and we are just focusing on ourselves.

“Every game you go into you are looking to get three points and this Sunday is not different to that.

“It would just furthermore that momentum that we have already created. The main priority for us is the three points and the win that we are going in for.”

The 24-year-old feels the squad can use the experience of the last clash between the sides when they met in the Glasgow Cup final back in July to target another positive result.

She continued: “We will use that and we will learn from it. There was many positives in the game and obviously we came away with the victory. We will definitely look on what we have done well and focus on us and see how we can develop for Sunday's game.”

“You treat every game as one, this Sunday is not different. We will prepare well as we have for every other league game and we will all look forward to it.”

Jo Potter’s side head into the fixture in fine form with their most recent win being the 7-0 win over Hibs at Ibrox. Cornet reflected on their last outing and what it has been like being back with the squad following her return from injury.

She added: “It was a special moment for the women's team. Obviously we wanted to put on a performance for the fans that turned up, and I think we did that with a clean sheet and a convincing victory.

“It has been amazing to be back in with the squad. It is always a moment you relish when you have been out injured. Being in amongst the group has been amazing and they have been class with me.”
