The Light Blues are next on the pitch tomorrow evening, taking on Dundee United, where they will target a return to winning ways in Scottish Premiership action.
Speaking to the media in this afternoon’s press conference ahead of the trip to Tannadice, he commented: “I am honest, and I try, and I am still positive. For me, it was clear when I arrived.
"Yes, you want to make a straight impact. I have made it maybe not better, but it is still five games, 13 points.
“It is much more than we had before, but I see, of course, in this step forward, you have to be honest. Sometimes you have to understand that there are also some small setbacks.
“For me, it is about taking on one side the emotional things around me a little bit away and looking at the clear picture. Look at how we can work on solutions and be a good mirror for my group.
“I think this is very important that I show them confidence and that I am strong, and I look for solutions and I see that we can do it better.
“I have so many questions in my mind, I see good things, and I see steps where I think ok, this is a big part of what we have to improve, and that doesn't happen overnight.
“You take the win against Livingston, it is not the nicest game after the international break, but we took the win and against Braga, I think the first 60 we played well, and now we have had a game where we think that was not everything we wanted.
“It is important for solutions, and if we do this and we will make progress for what we want. Football is, on the one side, short-term it is about winning and for me it is about the side of winning to see in which direction we can go in the second half of the season.”
“I think in general in the last few weeks there has been a lot of traffic, but this is football.
“I try to give a bit of calmness to the situation. My group here in the building give them positive energy, and we want to put up something.
“I think we all know where we are at the moment, we know compared to the past, and we know what it needs.
“This is step by step now, the first weeks were me arriving coming here, and now we make the next step, and I am very positive because the club is very clear, and now it is about step by step and making good decisions.”
The Head Coach spoke of the current injury situation in the squad by giving an update to supporters, saying it could provide chances for others to come in and take their chance.
He continued: “Youssef [Chermiti] is in this morning, we will try to see how he reacts, it will be a light session for him to see if he is available.
“Dujon [Sterling] will be in the squad tomorrow. A new injury, Oliver [Antman], is out for a minimum of eight weeks, a big injury. Mikey [Moore] looks good, not available for this week, but maybe in the short term.
“It is a good sign. I cannot promise too much, but he looks good so far; that is the situation. Joe [Rothwell], I think, could be back with the squad; he was injured last week.
“After the Dundee game, I said we were a group together, but now you have to think and find solutions nearly every three days.
“It is football, especially now at this time of the year, you have so many games, especially in November and December, it is always the time when more injuries come.
“Then you have to take out players, they have to take the next opportunity, and then tomorrow I have to find the starting XI and bench and then try to create more good moments.
“More dangerous moments in this area, I think this is the biggest challenge now. I see a good step forward in our defensive line. I see that with clean sheets, it is better and better.
“Of course, there are some individual mistakes and errors because that is what we have to stop, but generally as a group we defended better.
“Not perfect, but much better since I have arrived and now it is the next part to improve our attacking stuff to create more opportunities to get into more good areas.
“It is about positioning, body shape, how you receive the ball in the game, all the small things. If you do this, you have more chances, and then the chance is higher to score.
“We spoke the last time about Findlay [Curtis], he got some minutes, and for me it was completely ok, what I saw in the 20 minutes is good for him.
“Now it is about the next players; we see injuries coming. Lyall [Cameron] got some minutes, and now it is about being ready. Sometimes, you have to be patient enough to wait for the next opportunity and then if the opportunity is there to jump in.
“It means not for me if you are out for two games, you are still out for five or six weeks because there are so many games we get opportunities, but then it is about using them.
“Maybe in the next match he gets some minutes, and then he can show and help the team.
“This is crucial; we have to stick together. Here in this building and around, if you do this, then I think tomorrow we will have a fantastic away support, and this is good to see, and then we will try our best to bring all the effort and hopefully take the next step.”
In a continuous packed festive schedule, the German wants the team to continue targeting taking as many points as possible, as they build towards and plan for the upcoming January transfer window.
He added: “After the draw at the weekend, we feel we are not far away, and then we drop back, and you think no chance, but the other side is just seven out of nine points; with results, you can close the gap.
“This result is about consistency. This is what I said after the game: it is about consistently taking points, and if you take the next five games again and get 13 points, then I think we are in a good way, and this should be the goal.
“Nearly every two or three days, I am in conversation with Andrew [Cavanagh]. I think this is crucial, he will also be in the next couple of days, so we will have the next meeting.
“We have to prepare; I give my feedback every matchday back to him. What I see is not just about positions, also. What is important for us as a group, which profiles we need, new threats we need from the skills, the tools, a specialist in some areas, I think this is crucial.
“I know the next four weeks will be a lot of these questions again and again.
“It is crucial to prepare for this window well, and hopefully, the market also gives us the opportunities to do what we want and finally, yes, earlier is better. That is helpful because in January we have a lot of games.”
