The midfielder started and played 75 minutes as he looks to put his injury misfortune – having missing over a year of action – behind him.
Speaking to RangersTV after the match, McInally commented: "It felt really good to be back, to be honest, but I was just building my way back into the game.
"I thought I started off quite slow, but I slowly started to build my way into it as the game went on and I felt that I was progressing.
"It's hard being back on the pitch after being out for a year, especially when there's a new style of play to adapt to, but all the boys are trying to learn every day, listening to the new manager, and seeing what he has to say.
"We need to try and take everything that we're learning and implement it into the games because there has been a tactical change. We need to try and take it into the games and improve."
B Team head coach, David McCallum, was also delighted to welcome the teenager back onto the pitch as he said: “Darren has had such a tough time over the last two years with two long-term injuries.
“He is back and that has been his most significant match minutes since his return. He got 75 minutes but he hasn’t changed in terms of how he plays.
“I was really pleased to see him on the pitch, he is an infectious character, the way he plays and the energy he brings to the team.
“He wants to be in contention for more minutes and he is getting to that stage so I am pleased for him."
On this afternoon’s game, which ended in a 3-1 defeat for a young Gers side populated predominantly by 2006 and 2007-born players, McInally reflected: "We started very slowly today and that continued throughout the whole game.
“We could have created a few more chances as well, but we were sloppy and it was unfortunate.
"We could have stuck to the line a little bit better. A few of the boys were good, but a few of the passes were just going out of the pitch. Overall, it just wasn't our day."
