The city Stadium in Mount Florida is the venue for tomorrow night’s contest, with a semi-final showdown with East Kilbride awaiting the Light Blues should they progress.
Indeed, the young Gers got the better of Stenhousemuir of League One in the previous round and they are the only B Team remaining the competition heading into the last eight.
Speaking to the media ahead of tomorrow evening’s clash, McCallum commented: “It’s an exciting game.
“We talk about trying to present different challenges and this is a bit different again because you’re further into a cup competition where you’re competing against teams right up to Championship level.
“This is the sternest test that we’ll have faced in the competition so far, but it’s one that the players are really looking forward to.
“There are different ways that you can develop and, obviously, our lads are trying to get into our first-team which isn’t an easy challenge.
“But they need to make sure that they build bridges along the way and work themselves to a point where they can go and perform in games of this level and show what they can achieve as an individual, yet hopefully contribute to a strong team performance and a positive result at the end of it.
“It will be a difficult and challenging game, but one where we can hopefully go and show what we’re capable of doing as a group.”
Rangers Academy have enjoyed recent first-team involvement in Philippe Clement’s squad, with Bailey Rice making his European debut in the 4-1 triumph away to Nice and Findlay Curtis being rewarded for his impressive B Team form with a spot on the substitutes bench.
McCallum admits it’s a source of pride to see the level of Academy involvement at senior level – Leon King, Ross McCausland, Cole McKinnon and Robbie Fraser were also part of the squad – and says the challenge for the current B Team group is to make sure they catch the eye in high profile games such as tomorrow.
He added: “We talk about competitive leagues and we would love for our players to be consistently challenged at this level week in, week out.
“It’s not something that the Scottish system has in place, but in the meantime, we have this cup competition where they can do that.
“It’s a chance for them to build their own profile. We want to perform as a team and win, but at the same time we want individuals to go and stand out, and by the end of the game they get to a point where people are talking about them and what level they can achieve.
“There are a number of players in the group who could go and catch people’s eye tomorrow night.
“This is a high profile game in terms of the competition and level that it’s at. The challenge for them is to go and show who they are and what they’re capable of doing.
“We want to provoke conversation about them, and at the end of the game if people are talking about them in a positive light then it’s important to us.”
