The young Gers netted three or more goals for the second successive game to cap off a positive week in their opening Best v Best fixtures this campaign.
Speaking to RangersTV after the triumph, McCallum said of his side’s display: “I really enjoyed the game again. If you look over the 90 minutes as a whole, it wasn’t straightforward which is what I liked about it. These are the games that you know you’re going to have to spend time without the ball, defend, and the game ebbed and flowed.
“We started really well, got ourselves ahead, and then Burnley started to get a grip. They looked really good out of possession and made it really difficult, but we found ourselves back into the game and got back moments of control. That’s where I thought it was really good.
“It’s a real tactical and technical challenge these games. You need to make sure that when you have to be at the top of your game, you make a difference, and I thought we did that.
“It’s a little frustrating to lose the goal at the end to make it 5-3, but I really enjoyed both the game and the strong attacking threat that we brought throughout the 90 minutes. We also understood that you need to be comfortable without the ball and we did that.”
The Clarets provided a consistent attacking threat across the 90 minutes, calling Robby McCrorie into action on numerous occasions in the first half.
However, McCallum insists he was delighted at how decisive his players were in decisive moments of the game.
He added: “You look at Burnley getting back to 2-1, then we score quite quickly afterwards. It was the same again after half-time when they brought it back to 3-2, before we got the fourth one. It felt that at critical times we got our goals at good moments.
“I’m just really enjoying watching the lads play at the moment. We have a real control about how we want to look with the ball, and we take challenges on.
“Burnley asked us a few questions and I thought we upped our game at key moments in order to deal with the pressure. You look at Bailey [Rice] and Arron [Lyall] taking the ball in the opening phase of our build. That’s key for us as we want to be able to play through pressure and play in areas which invites the opposition in. We did that really well at times.
“Beyond that phase, you look at the front four of Zak [Lovelace] and Thompson [Ishaka] to start, Ross [McCausland] joining the front line. There were a lot good moments in there which caused them problems, then Alex [Lowry] providing a bit of magic in there as well.”
