The B team boss looked back on the season so far, as the squad prepare to travel to face Grant Sandison’s side at Victoria Park for their last fixture of 2021.
Speaking exclusively to RangersTV before their upcoming match, he said: “We’ve not been at that venue before, it’s a new one for us.
“We’ve heard that it can be quite a difficult pitch to play on, but most pitches are like that in this stage of the season anyway. The weather is changing a little bit and that can affect the way the pitches are, but it’s about us.
“We have to try and make sure that our focus is on the game to try and challenge us to reach the levels that we believe that the players can.
“It’s important that we focus on the way we want our team to play and take into the considerations that Vale of Leithen might bring.
“It's about mindset and making sure that whatever the game is we try and influence our style into the game. It’s one that we will try and impose our style but be aware of what threats might come.”
McCallum continued by contemplating the squad’s first half of the season and their mindset to keep the momentum of performance and learning going as they head into the 2022 fixtures.
He added: “It’s been a good first half of the season, there’s been some really strong performances in every competition, if you look at it across the board there’s been great learning curves for the boys.
“We’ve got ourselves into a good position in the league, but naturally the players will look back and believe that we could’ve been a bit stronger than where we’re currently sitting, but that is part of the journey.
“It's about the course of the season, not treating it game by game. We want to make sure that as we go on, by the end of the season we’ll look back and see the areas that have been really strong, the areas that we could do better in and hopefully we can see the improvement throughout the season.”
