The B Team boss believes that the variety of competitions that the young Gers are competing in plays a great deal in their further development as they head to Sweden with a 3-0 advantage from the first leg.
He said: “We are very much looking forward to the second tie. I think when we looked at the calendar for this year with the programmes that we were going to be involved in, the UEFA Youth League was undoubtedly something that we were all looking forward to as we had missed it the previous year.
“Over the years, we’ve had many different scenarios and environments, and it has been a good part of their development.”
McCallum added that the Light Blues can’t be complacent in their second tie against the Swedish side because of their three goal lead.
He continued: “We have to forget about the scoreline, we’ve done very well in the first game, and it was a strong performance, but we’ve got to do the same again and start right from the beginning.
“Hammarby will come into the game to have a go at us at their home venue. We have to make sure that they don’t have those opportunities and that we begin the game very quick and aggressive, we want to control the game.
“We have to make sure that the message from that start is to forget the scoreline and start strongly to make it difficult for Hammarby to keep up with our levels.
“I expect them to come and have a go at us, it’s their home game. We have to make sure that we are ready for that. We might have to defend at times, the lads have had good practice at that so far this season so far in different games within the Lowland League. Our immediate intention has to play on the front foot, we’ve got to go after Hammarby in the first instance.”
