Demi Vance: One Step At A Time On Injury Rehab

DEMI VANCE is taking one step at a time as she continues her recovery from knee surgery.

The defender sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury while on international duty with Northern Ireland in November last year.

After undergoing surgery on Christmas Eve, Vance is now able to do limited gym work as she continues her rehab.

Speaking to RangersTV, she said: “I am ten week's post-op so I am back in the gym, I am squatting, deadlifting and I'm doing a lot of single leg exercises.

“These past few weeks have been based on strength to try and strengthen up my knee and get it back to what it was.

“I am working with the Rangers physio and the Northern Ireland physio just to ensure we are kind of doing everything we should be.

“Everybody reached out as soon as the injury happened and I have had a lot of support from my teammates.

“I have quite a few teammates who have gone through this injury so I have been bombarding everyone with questions as the weeks go on just to make sure I am on track.”

Vance says she is setting herself mini targets to help navigate her way through the lengthy recovery programme.

She explained: “I set myself mini goals and as soon as I achieve them I can move on to the next. I can be quite impatient and this is obviously going to be quite a lengthy recovery process so I have to break it down in order to get through the weeks.

“It is like anything and once you get a little bit you want a little bit more but all those little bits count so hopefully I'll be running soon.

“I'm obviously quite lucky in some ways that lockdown is here and I feel like I am doing rehab in the background and I haven't missed any club games.

“My next aim is just to pass all the tests and get ready to run so hopefully once I am allowed to do that I can start to build up my fitness and tick off the goals I have set myself.

“I'm missing two really important games for Northern Ireland but I think for me football has almost come to somewhat of a standstill and I hope I can get back and be on course to be with the girls for pre-season.”

Northern Ireland have reached the Women’s Euro play-offs for the first time in their history, with the draw scheduled to take place on Friday afternoon.

Despite missing out on the two-leg tie, Vance will be watching on closely to support her international teammates.

She continued: “It is massive for us and is very exciting. These two games will be the biggest two games ever for Northern Ireland Women.

“A lot of us have been together from the very start so for us to be involved in this game, or watching from the sidelines, is an important thing from a personal level and as a team.”
