Last month, Rangers continued their progress within the game in Scotland by announcing their new home venue as the iconic stadium ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.
Speaking to RangersTV on the topic, the Women’s and Girls’ Managing Director gave an overview on how the scheduling of matches will work in the ground moving forward.
He said: “It is fantastic, something that has never been done in this scale in Scotland before.
“We have seen other clubs do it in different countries and things like that. We have had the backing from the leadership to do it.
“I think the complexity of this situation is obviously clear for all to see.
“We don't know what the men's European schedule is going to look like so not knowing that means that we can't necessarily say this one and this one and so on is going to be at Ibrox.
“We need to operate under the understanding that yes it is going to be at Ibrox unless there is conflicts along the way.
“There will be things that we need to work with our colleagues at such as the management of the pitch, to make sure that it continues to be in its fantastic condition that has always been in.
“The women's game doesn't tend to have as much force and impact through the surface as others so there has been no reason to suggest that it will be tough but we need to understand what that looks like in the longer term so we can give a through programme.
“Ultimately growing the game, getting more people to experience the women's team and doing it in your home city of Glasgow was the key motivation.
“North Lanarkshire council have been fantastic with us, Broadwood is a great facility and remains a great facility and they understand what we are trying to do, because ultimately there will be games at Broadwood.
“So we grow the audience between Ibrox and Broadwood and it means there is a bigger audience coming to Broadwood.
“We are excited to be able to have more games than ever there, hopefully it will be a good spectacle and experience for the clubs that come to play us at Ibrox and hopefully the supporters come out in force to support the team.”
Having been back on the training pitch ahead of the new season since July 8, the women’s side will be in action for the first time as they host Middlesbrough in a friendly this Sunday before jetting off to Northern Italy as preparations ramp up for the competitive football returning.
Gillies highlighted the quality of opponents they will face to get them ready for their league opener in the best way possible.
He added: “I am delighted with that programme, four games in 10 days but four games of that quality.
“I think not having Champions League football is obviously a huge disappointment for the club but making sure that we continue to evolve to be playing opponents that we serve us in good stead moving forward, when we are back playing Champions League football is important.
“To be able to go to Italy and play Inter and AC Milan, play strong English clubs like Middlesbrough and Sunderland, we are delighted with the programme.
“It gives the players and the staff a good platform to go and kick on and understand what the expectations are going to be.
“The new players that are coming in and are still to come in will understand what we are all about when we get into that programme and the ball starts rolling in the SWPL.”
