DUJON Sterling believes the Rangers squad are in a better place as they prepare to host St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership tomorrow evening.
With three victories in a row in the league, the right-back says the togetherness in the team has been important as they look to continue the momentum this week.
Speaking to the media at the pre-match press conference, Sterling said: “It has been good; there’s a lot of positivity around the camp now, all of the new players are bedding in well, and you can just see the togetherness in the group.
“We all know Europe was disappointing at the start of the season; we had tough games, and things were not going how we wanted them to.
“I have been here for a while now and understand the outside noise; you have got to stay together as a group, you have got to stick with it, and you have got to keep working hard every day. Now we are starting to see the results pick up and everyone is in a better place.”
After a difficult season with injury, Sterling has been relishing a run in the team in his preferred right-back position, he continued: “I have been playing right-back since the start of the season and you can see that you get rhythm and your body gets used to playing in that one position.
“That is where ideally, I have wanted to play since I've been there but we've had Tav, so I was always fighting for competition and then obviously doing my achilles meant I wasn't able to play twice a week, whereas now I have basically played every game so I am in a good place.
“When I was getting injured, I would rush back from an injury to play in games because every game is an important one so I might not have been 100 per cent but I was coming back to play even if I was at 50 per cent so that is probably why I was breaking down again. Now, we have identified the problems over the summer, and you can see I am in a good place. I missed one game, and that was because of the pitch.
On what he expects from St Mirren tomorrow, Sterling added: “When we played them in the cup, it was a difficult game to start with and then everything opened up, and we hit them on the transition a lot. Watching their game the other day against Celtic, I expect them to be a very tough opposition.”
