Rangers effectively had the game won inside the first 17 minutes as Team America ensured it would be a comfortable afternoon.
Carlos Bocanegra, skipper of the US national side, headed the Light Blues ahead in eight minutes and then Mo Edu hit a sensational left foot shot to make in 2-0 nine minutes later.
Immediately any fears that Rangers might suffer a reaction to the shock League Cup exit at Falkirk were washed away and, if anything, they should have been in a more commanding lead such were the opportunities and the domination they enjoyed.
There is no doubt the first goal settled the team down but the key was that they started the game at a good tempo, unlike last Wednesday night.
It came about when Gregg Wylde whipped in a decent free kick from a right central area which caused havoc in the Dunfermline defence. The ball took a deflection and keeper Paul Gallagher just managed to claw it around the right post.
Steve Davis sent in the corner and Bocanegra attacked it perfectly to power a header into the net for his first SPL goal and his second for Gers since signing from St Etienne.
Stevie Naismith might have scored in 12 minutes when Wylde played him in with a good ball from the left but he pulled his shot wide of target.
However, the second goal was not long in coming and it was something special. Nikica Jelavic cleverly laid the ball off into the path of Mo Edu and from 22 yards he drilled a left foot shot into the left corner.
It was just the start Ally McCoist wanted and Rangers piled on the pressure. Naismith shot wide again in 19 minutes then Jelavic headed over from Wylde’s corner three minutes later.
There was a scare for Rangers in 28 minutes when Dorin Goian went down seemingly in some distress and had to be carried from the pitch by stretcher.
Whatever it was some handiwork by Doc Jackson and Pip Yeates sorted the problem and the big Romanian was back in action three minutes later.
It was a slight blip in an otherwise very positive first half which might have finished with a more emphatic score line.
Jelavic turned provider for Davis in 40 minutes with a neat cutback from a tight angle but the skipper headed wide. Then Wylde had a left foot shot saved by Gallagher after being set up by Davis.
In saying that, the fans only had five minutes of the second half to wait for the third goal to come and it was another superb effort from the Light Blues.
Davis was the instigator with a perfectly weighted pass for Naismith who cleverly timed his run before firing a left foot shot past Gallagher.
Rangers had made a switch at half-time bringing on Juan Ortiz for Kyle Lafferty which in turn promoted Naismith to a front role beside Jelavic and he benefitted immediately.
Indeed the partnership was to prove highly profitable later in a match which really could have produced an infinitely higher score line.
Whittaker was inches away from the top left corner with a shot in 65 minutes then Gallagher made a brilliant save from his long range volley three minutes later.
A minute before that Jelavic tested the Dunfermline keeper with a terrific free kick and Gallagher just managed to tip it over the bar.
Alejandro Bedoya then joined the action and he was not far away from making it an American trilogy when he cut inside from the left and hit a low right foot shot but Jelavic was in the firing line and it deflected off the Croatian striker for a goal kick.
Finally Rangers managed a fourth goal in the 81st minute and it was one of terrific quality.
Dunfermline had enjoyed a rare foray into Rangers’ territory and won a free kick on the right side of the box but it was dealt with and suddenly Davis was on the breakaway.
He burst fully 60 yards before playing in Jelavic who unselfishly squared the ball for Naismith to side foot in his second of the match.
Job done.
