In the first meeting between the team’s this season and Head Coach Leanne Crichton’s first time being in charge during the fixture, the Gers impressed as the match went on to claim a priceless 2-0 win at New Douglas Park.
Speaking at full time after heading home from Mia McAulay’s corner to double the advantage on the day, Austin commented: “I don't think I can sum up my emotions, I think you could see in my celebration it meant a lot to me.
“Something we'd worked on? It actually wasn't, I just said to Mia I was free, no one was picking me up, and I thought I'd just go to the back post and head it, and it went in.
“We identified as well that the back post was a weak area for them. Someone always had to be there, and it was me just for that corner, and I scored.”
The youngster, who started the opening three matches of the campaign but was introduced as a substitute following an injury to debutant Jess Pegram, spoke of the moment coming onto the pitch earlier than expected and working under the former Scotland international in the opening months of the season.
She continued: “Leanne's message? It was just to do the basics right, and I think that is what I did. It is always hard coming into those games, but you do just need to do the basics and believe in yourself.
“It has been amazing. I think she has trust in all the players in the changing room, so it has been really good.”
Getting on the scoresheet alongside fellow academy graduate McAulay was certainly a special moment for Austin, who praised the fellow young players in the squad and feels the result is something the squad can build on.
She added: “We have a lot of young players like May [Cruft] as well. She has just turned 16, so it is very positive to show that it doesn't really matter your age, you can still come in and do a job.
“We have maybe not been at our best the last couple of weeks, so to get the three points and put in a good performance will only make us stronger.”
