The centre-back joined from Peterborough yesterday, becoming the fourth new addition of the summer. Sitting down for an exclusive first interview, the 23-year-old said it was an honour to join Rangers after showing determination and hard work over the past few years.
Fernandez said: “Rangers is a huge club, with a great fanbase and it is a place where I know I can kick start my career and my journey. It has been a journey for me, from being let go by a club, playing non-league during covid and then getting the opportunity at Peterborough.
"It took me a while to start playing there but after I got my chance and a season of fully playing, I can’t be more grateful to get this move.
“My family were behind me, pushing me, and making sure they kept me on the right track to train harder and push to the next level.”
On how he feels to be joining Rangers, Fernandez continued: “A couple of weeks ago I heard about it and to be honest I was shocked because I was thinking that this is a big club, they play in Europe, they have a great fan base.
“I have watched a lot of games, I have watched the Old Firm derby as well and it is a place I really wanted to be.
“It means a lot to be given a four-year deal because that means there’s trust. It is a big step from where I am coming from, but I feel like this is the perfect place for me to be.

“The manager seems amazing, and he is going to help me in all types of ways and the staff around seem to be amazing too, so it is going to be very good for me.
“It feels like the team is building, the team is going to grow under a new manager, and also I have seen his style of play, and it is a style of play that I am used to coming from Peterborough so I can't wait to get started.”
