With the SWPL currently suspended, players have been undertaking voluntary home programmes set by Women’s and Girls’ Sports Scientist Emma Traynor.
Individual to each player, the programmes are aimed to replicate a regular week at the training centre.
This week, Emma spoke exclusively to RangersTV to give an insight into the work behind the scenes.
She said: “It is a really challenging time, we have been here before and the positive we can take from it is we know each other a lot better now as a group than what we did back in March but that is not to take anything away from the challenges.
“There are so many factors that we are having to consider at the moment, the weather being one of them.
“When the players are running at home and it is snowy and icy outside it has been a bit of a challenge and obviously the varied amount of equipment that each player has but I think it is just about controlling what we can and making the best out of the situation we are in at the moment.
“We are trying to replicate as best as we can a usual week in the training centre so there's three to four running sessions a week. They have got two at home gym programmes and then they have got a circuit also.
“The circuit is a new addition into the week and the reason we have added that is because as much as they are a really motivated and hardworking group I appreciate that it is hard to keep yourself motivated when you are by yourself running at home.
“Hopefully the circuit is a good way to get us all together on Zoom. The girls can all have a chat and then we can work together so hopefully that has been a nice addition.”
Emma says the squad and backroom team are using the extra time as a positive to work on specific areas of a player’s individual performance.
She continued: “There's definitely an individual element to the home programmes depending on position so the goalkeepers for example have a specific programme which is more suited to their role.
“Individually we can change it depending on load or any injuries that the girls pick up but from a group perspective it is something we are trying to work on in the next couple of weeks.
“We are trying to hone in on the individual elements of the girls game that we want to improve and use this period to do that.
“It is a really challenging time for everybody but I think that is what is so good about us having a really tight knit group of both players and staff is that hopefully there is someone there for everyone that we can talk too.
“Hopefully we can use this challenging time as a positive and if we can come through it all together it'll only make us stronger.”
