The Light Blues were dominant and impressive in their victory over the Buddies, with much of that stemming from the style of play up-top.
Often, Alfredo Morelos, Ianis Hagi, Joe Aribo and Ryan Kent would switch positions, and speaking at today’s press conference, Gerrard explained: "It is definitely something we have worked on - not just this season - we have worked on it a lot throughout our time.
"But we do want to give players like Joe that license to go and roam, be free and express themselves because that is how we feel we will get the most out of those individuals.
"They are talented players and we don't want them to be hemmed into one position if you like.
"So that's not just for Joe - it is for all the attacking players. As long as you respect the position and respect the shape of the team and the organisation out of possession.
"When we are in possession, we want to make it as difficult as we can for opposition teams.
"We are going to get a lot of teams that come and sit in a block and who are organised and try to derail us.
"So the more fluidity with people changing positions and causing as many problems for opposition teams, the better it is in my opinion."
Nigerian international Leon Balogun also made his Ibrox bow in the win, with Gerrard continuing: "I have been very impressed, and not just with the player. We knew we were adding a fantastic player because we have followed him and tracked him for quite a while.
"I also spoke to Paul Cooke at Wigan in great detail about him and he was very complimentary.
"So we knew we were getting a top player, and since he has come in the door, he has been fantastic in training and he has been really good around the place in-terms of his character.
"You can see clearly he is a winner and he is our type and fits our profile as he is quick. So at Ibrox when we want to go and put pressure on teams, it is important that defenders are capable of defending the halfway line, and he certainly is."
Team news: Allan McGregor will again miss out, as will Jermain Defoe. Kemar Roofe could be involved for the first time after taking a full part in training on Tuesday.
