Gordon, who made his debut for the club in 1907 and amassed over 350 appearances, spent 13 years at the club and won a league championship both before and after the First World War.
He played under the legendary William Wilton, and his versatility was such that he played every position on the pitch, including a game between the posts, during his time at Rangers.
Born in Saltcoats on July 23rd 1888, Gordon joined Rangers during the 1906/07 campaign and made his debut in a 3-0 win over Kilmarnock on the last day of the Scottish League Division One season at the age of 19.
Soon establishing himself as a regular in Wilton’s starting lineup, he experienced his first major trophy success with the Gers in 1910/11, scoring five goals in 28 league appearances en route to the Division One title.
Gordon won four further league titles during his time at Ibrox in 1911/12, 1912/13, 1917/18 and 1919/20.
Capped ten times by Scotland during his career, Gordon made his international debut against Ireland on March 16th 1912, with his greatest moment in Scotland blue coming on April 4th 1914 as he captained his side to a 3-1 win over England in front of a Hampden Park crowd of over 100,000.
His commitment to the Rangers cause was rewarded with two benefit matches during his time at the club, with the first staged at Ibrox in January 1912 as Clyde provided the opposition, before a second against an ‘Internationalists’ side in May 1920.
A fundraiser has now been launched to allow for Gordon to be commemorated on Chapelwell Street in his hometown with a view to installing a blue plaque and QR code, which will link to details of the Hall of Famer.
Supporters wishing to contribute are asked to contact the Joe Milligan Three Towns Rangers Supporters Club on Facebook or secretary Ryan McCleave, who is collecting donations.
Any donations which exceed the amount required will go towards the group's future efforts to raise funds for a plaque commemorating Jimmy Galt, who played 185 league matches for Rangers between 1906 and 1914 and was a longtime friend of Mr Gordon.
