The Light Blues have taken a strong squad across the North Sea for tomorrow’s clash with the side which finished fifth in last season’s Eredivisie.
Gerrard expects a thorough test for his side tomorrow night, in a game you can see exclusively live on RangersTV.
Speaking at tonight’s press conference, Gerrard said: "I think it is very difficult to compare team-to-team. Everyone has different styles, different strengths and different weaknesses.
"But one thing is for sure, it will be a tough game and a big challenge for us. From experience in the last couple of years we have noticed from round to round in-terms of quality rises a lot.
"That is with no disrespect to teams that we have moved on from or that we have beaten in the past, but I think it is only natural that the closer you get to group stages, the level of opponent always improves.
"I am confident in the squad and have total belief in the players we have brought here and the players that are available.
"If we play well and reach anywhere near our potential, I am confident we can get a positive result.
"Nothing has changed in-terms of the injuries from the weekend, so from the update I last gave, nothing has changed on that.
"So we have basically brought the players that were available."
Of course, it’s a single leg for qualifying ties this season, and Gerrard conceded that may alter his approach somewhat.
The manager continued: "I think it might slightly - it is different and it is a unique situation. It does take away a slight advantage for us, if you like, if it is over two legs and you have the opportunity to bring a team back to your home ground.
"Whether that is a bigger advantage with no fans or with fans it up for debate, but one thing is for sure, I think to get through this new process under the Covid restrictions is going to be a harder and tougher challenge than the previous two years.
"A big part of our performances and our success throughout these qualifiers over the last couple of years, and our journeys in Europe have really stemmed from our solid base defensively, our organisation and what we give to the game out of possession.
"Having said that, it's just one side of the game - you still have to have the players and the talent in your team to go and hurt the opposition when the ball turns over.
"So to get a successful result tomorrow, both sides of our game have got to be good, but from an out of possession point of view, we have got to be much better from the weekend."
Willem have lost one and won one of their two league matches so far this season, while they defeated the familiar name of Progres Niederkorn in the previous qualifying round.
On their qualities, the manager said: "We have watched all the games they have played this season - the two in the league and the one against Progres in the previous qualifier.
"So we have a really good idea about this team and their strengths and weaknesses - they carry a big threat in the front four players.
"They normally play a 4-2-3-1 formation, and they made some really interesting changes at the weekend at half-time - they weren't getting much joy and changed people that had been playing in positions consistently, but went a little bit different.
"So I am really looking forward to seeing what team they decide to play as that will give me a big indication as to how it will look from a Willem II point of view."
