The Dutch side, who finished fifth in last season’s Eredivisie, haven’t lost at home in over a year, but clinical Gers put them to the sword to set up a massive Ibrox clash with Galatasaray next Thursday.
Speaking to RangersTV in Tilburg, boss Steven Gerrard said: "They are a good team and you could see all night they had a threat and they had dangerous players. They were looking for that combination, that one v one, and had a lot of creativity in the final third.
"Tonight was all about trying to control that, restrict that and keep their top players quiet. I thought we didn't do that well enough in the first half and I thought we were lucky to go in at 2-0 - it could have been 2-1 or 2-2 as it was a very end-to-end game in the first half and we needed to sort our organisation out for the second half, and the boys carried that out brilliantly.
"But four different scorers, a strong win and a clean sheet - there are a lot of positives to take and it was again another top, top show from our goalkeeper.”
Connor Goldson netted from a corner and Fil Helander from a second-phase Ryan Kent ball into the box as Gers once again showed their set-piece prowess.
Gerrard continued: "We put loads of work into the set pieces. Tom [Culshaw] gives them a load of guidance on it, but they have to go out and carry it out and we have got to get quality into the right areas and you have got to want to go and score goals from set-pieces.
"It was great to see that we scored two tonight."
Allan McGregor, back in the side tonight, was outstanding in goal for the Light Blues once again to preserve the clean sheet.
"It's no surprise,” said Gerrard, “and it's the reason I picked him. I knew that, at times against this team, we would have maybe been in 'one v one' situations where he would have needed to make big stops so we certainly got that decision right.
"But Allan deserves the credit, it was a super showing."
There was also a European debut on the night in the second half for Calvin Bassey, Gerrard adding: "It's fantastic for him. I said to him, 'look, at this level, you have got to come on and play like a man - play like an adult and be really focused to everything.'
"This is a different level and mistakes are punished here, so to be fair to him, he came on and he did okay.
"It will be fantastic for his development moving forward.
"I thought our subs were positive - Jordan Jones you can see gave us that energy at the end and looked a real threat.
"Cedric held it up for us and tried to be that link man - we obviously had a couple of yellow cards and had to protect the players, so everything went well tonight.
"But, what I will say is we have beaten a good team and a dangerous team. This wasn't a 4-0 game, but it is certainly a fantastic result."
It’s all about recovery for Gers now as they get set to take on Motherwell at Fir Park on Sunday.
Gerrard said: "It is key. We won't do much on the pitch - we
will do a lot of recovery and we have traveling, so the recovery starts now.
"People who were on the outside today and in the squad today have to be ready as we have to make sure everyone comes through that and then we will have a gameplan ready for Motherwell, but it will be another tough test."
