Gerrard Gives Injury Update

RANGERS will head into tomorrow’s match with Ross County with a huge boost to their squad as Ryan Jack comes back into contention.

The midfield man has missed the last two months for the Light Blues having last played against Aberdeen on November 22.

He could feature against the Staggies, as could Kemar Roofe with the striker not playing since the Old Firm game on January 2.

Gerrard gave a positive injury update at his press conference today, explaining: “[Nikola] Katic is moving along and getting closer to where he needs to get to. Scott Arfield is the same and progressing well – Scott is on track in-terms of maybe a return to the group in early February.

“That is only a pencilled-in date, but that is what we are all working towards.

“Ryan Jack has had a full week’s training and he will be back in the squad tomorrow, and we will make a decision on Kemar Roofe today. It is his first session back with the group, so they are two really big boosts to have Jack and Roofe back as they are two important players.”

Jack and Arfield’s absence has meant a largely settled midfield of Steven Davis, Glen Kamara and Joe Aribo – while the manager was keen to not overlook the contribution of Bongani Zungu in recent weeks.

He added: “It has been a fantastic boost to also have Zungu to offload some of those players you have named at certain key times, and he has helped us in fixtures to get over the line and really put his stamp on things.

“I have been really pleased with his contribution. We have missed Jack for sure – he is a big player here and a big character and has been ever-so consistent for me over the 149 games or whatever he has been available.

“So to have him back with eight or nine days training, he looks more ready now and he will be in the group tomorrow fighting for a starting place.

“To have him fit from now moving forward is an immense boost, not just for those midfielders, but for everyone connected to the club as he can help us moving forward massively.
