The manager again praised the fans for their backing this season but wants the old ground to be even louder than ever tomorrow night against the Portuguese giants.
He told today’s press conference: “You are talking about a group of supporters that are up there with the best in the world – they thrive upon and love European nights, especially when a big name is in town.
“The fans have been incredible, but what I would say is we need that plus more tomorrow so I want to try and rev them up.”
The importance of tomorrow’s Ibrox clash isn’t lost on Gerrard, who continued: “I think when the group was named, or whenever you are in a group situation, you have always got to look to take maximum points at home.
“So the idea is always to try and be aggressive at home, but you always have to try and do it with a certain level of control as you have to respect the quality and the danger of the opposition and take into consideration what maybe their game-plan might be.
“But nothing changes, whether it’s the first-half of the group or the second half of the group when it comes to home games we want to be front-foot and we want to try and get the crowd with us as early as we can because that is when we feel we are at our best, when the place is pumping and all the players are playing on the front foot.
“But we want to try and take the advantage of home with our supporters being with us to help us take maximum points, which would put us in a fantastic position with two games left.”
