The Light Blues are in Aberdeen, ready to kick-off the new campaign following an excellent pre-season – and they’ll be looking to carry that hard work into today’s clash at Pittodrie.
Despite the challenges of Covid-19 and the restrictions that has imposed upon the team, they have been able to build a terrific base of fitness and challenge themselves against French, English and Scottish opposition to ready themselves not only for today’s game, but the challenges to come over the course of the season.
For today’s match, boss Steven Gerrard has named a strong-looking team – with Nigerian international Leon Balogan coming in for a debut following his switch north last week.
Alongside him, Allan McGregor, James Tavernier, Connor Goldson, Ianis Hagi, Ryan Jack, Ryan Kent, Joe Aribo, Glen Kamara, Alfredo Morelos and Borna Barisic line-up for the Gers today.
The new SPFL rules mean Gerrard is able to name nine substitutes today, and use up to five of them in three separate windows.
The potential replacements today are sub goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin, Calvin Bassey, George Edmundson, Filip Helander, Jamie Murphy, Nathan Patterson, Brandon Barker, Greg Stewart and Scott Arfield.
