The Light Blues gaffer watched-on as his side came from a goal down at the break to lead 2-1 thanks to a sensational Alfredo Morelos double before the home side hit back with an equaliser.
Speaking at the post-match press-conference at De Kuip, he explained: “I think it is a fair result. I thought Feyenoord were better in the first half but I thought we were excellent in the second half.
“I thought we were passive at times and probably slightly lucky not to be further behind as we got a bit of luck with the goal, but Feyenoord certainly deserved to be in front at the break.
“I asked the players to remember what we stand for and what we are about, and how hard we have worked to get to this opportunity. I asked for the real Rangers in the second half, and we got it.
Asked about his views with Gers going into the final game with BSC Young Boys top of the group, he continued: “We are really pleased and proud of the boys to be in this position. Of course, we would have liked to have got the job done today, but we can’t control what happens elsewhere.
“Feyenoord are a good team, they have good players and they put us under some pressure in the first half, but if you look at this result in isolation, it is a positive result again.
Both of Morelos’ goals came from outstanding crosses from the left – the first being from Ryan Kent and the second from Borna Barisic.
Gerrard said: “That’s the quality we asked for at half-time. I thought our front three, we never saw enough from them in the first 45 – it was all coming to feet and not securing the ball with no runs in-behind and not really much quality.
“That was the frustrating thing at half-time. In the second half, we caused them lots of problems.
“The ball from Steven Davis to Ryan Kent is a fantastic ball, and then that is what Ryan Kent is about – half a yard, an incredible cross – and if you give ‘The Buff’ that type of service, he will get you goals.
“The second goal was pretty similar, only that it was an outswinging cross from Borna – again, it was a wonderful cross and arguably the second header is better than the first.
“But that is what he is about. It was two fantastic goals, and we looked more of a threat in the second half.
“We looked like we were game to go and cause Feyenoord problems which was missing in the first-half.”
