Goals in either half from Connor Goldson secured a fantastic and deserved victory for the Light Blues on the other side of town, and boss Gerrard could not have asked any more from his players.
Speaking to RangersTV, he explained: "It is a great victory and a really important three points - that is what we have come for and that is what we wanted to take away from here.
"I thought we showed a real, mature, professional performance and I thought we controlled it for the majority.
"We can still be better in certain parts, but it was a real, mature performance and we got what we deserved.
"The result is all we were after - the three points were very important today and the players have delivered.
"We gave them a game plan and a lot of information in a short space of time - but they deserve the plaudits and the credit as, to a man, they have gone out and carried it out and even the subs who came on took on the information.
"It was a calm performance and it is very rare you get that here."
Goldson’s opener came from yet another top-class James Tavernier free-kick delivery – and it was Gers’ prowess in such situations at both ends with delighted the gaffer.
He continued: "There are different aspects of set-pieces. You've got to defend your own box and be man enough to stand up.
"They have got some big, powerful boys coming in there, so to keep a clean sheet here is a big bonus and we know we have got the right quality and we know we will put the ball in the right areas.
"It's then about that hunger and desire to go and be a winner, and Connor Goldson has won his team three points today with two good finishes.
"I'm shocked and he is shocked! [Niko] Katic got all the credit and rightly so for a fantastic header - Connor deserves that moment today."
Gerrard’s side were so strong throughout – and he had multiple other options available to him today which posed him a real conundrum in the build-up to the match.
He said: "I was torn what team to pick - [Ianis] Hagi deserved to play, [Ryan] Jack deserved to play - but that midfield did ever so well for me against Galatasaray and I thought it would be a similar type of game, but, to a man, the three of them were outstanding.
"I thought Jacko came on as well and put in a real, professional half an hour as well. I am delighted with my midfield, and hopefully in 10 or 12 days’ time we have someone to add to that as well in [Bongani] Zungu who will be more ready then."
The only thing really missing from today’s win was the small band of Rangers supporters celebrating a super win in the corner.
On them, Gerrard added: "We know they are with us, even though they're not here in person. We knew who we were coming here to represent and we know how happy and proud they will be.
"This result means an awful lot to an awful lot of people - we are only here to represent them.
"The players have delivered so they should show their appreciation to the players."
