Gers B Compete At Hong Kong Sevens

RANGERS claimed silverware success in the Hong Kong Football Club Citi Soccer Sevens as they lifted the Main Plate in the prestigious tournament, defeating Singapore FC in the final on Sunday afternoon.

The Light Blues were taking part in the two-day tournament which took place for the first time since 2019 due to the outbreak of Covid-19, picking up silverware having lost out in the final of the Main Cup competition to Newcastle United in the previous two editions.

Having been drawn in a group alongside Aston Villa Under-21s, Tai Po FC and Yau Yee League Select, the young Gers picked up two points from their three group stage fixtures before dropping into the Main Plate competition.

Rangers claimed a 2-0 victory over Hong Kong FC at the quarter-final stage thanks to goals from Ben Williamson and Kai Kennedy.

Archie Stevens was then on hand to claim the only goal of the game in the last four as the Gers booked their place in the final with a 1-0 win over Hong Kong, China U22.

The Main Plate final was contested between Rangers and Singapore FC as the B Team captain Robbie Fraser was on target to deliver silverware, with the young Gers claiming success in the Main Plate competition without conceding a goal in the knockout phase.

Elsewhere, Aston Villa Under-21s took home the Main Cup as the Premier League 2 outfit defeated Hong Kong outfit Tai Po FC in the final, both of whom were involved in Rangers’ group on Saturday.

Newcastle United Under-21s, meanwhile, lifted the Main Shield with victory over Leicester City Under-21s in the final, while Wallsend Boys Club claimed the Masters tournament.
