A NUMBER of Rangers players are away on international duty this week. Here’s our preview of who is away, what matches they have coming up and when they are in action.
Jon McLaughlin & Nathan Patterson - Scotland
Saturday 9 October - Scotland v Israel - WC2022 Qualifier - 5pm
Tuesday 12 October - Faroe Islands v Scotland - WC2022 Qualifier - 7.45pm
Jon McLaughlin and Nathan Patterson have both once again been named in Steve Clarke’s squad as Scotland continue their World Cup qualifying campaign.
Scotland currently sit second in Group F after victories over Moldova and Austria last month. The two matches coming-up are crucial for Scotland as they look to continue their strong start to the campaign and ensure qualification for Qatar in 2022.
Steven Davis - Northern Ireland
Saturday 9 October - Switzerland v Northern Ireland - WC2022 Qualifier - 7.45pm
Tuesday 12 October - Bulgaria v Northern Ireland - WC2022 Qualifier - 7.45pm
As the UK’s most capped men’s footballer, it’s no surprise that Steven Davis has once again been named in the Northern Ireland squad as they continue their World Cup qualifying campaign.
Northern Ireland face two tough away trips this international break, firstly to Switzerland on Saturday before Bulgaria on Tuesday.
They currently sit third in Group C behind Switzerland and Italy.
Glen Kamara - Finland
Saturday 9 October - Finland v Ukraine - WC2022 Qualifier - 5pm
Tuesday 12 October - Kazakhstan v Finland - WC2022 Qualifier - 3pm
Glen’s Finland continue their World Cup 2022 qualifying campaign with two important matches against Ukraine and Finland.
A home match kicks-off the double header, before a trip to Kazakhstan. Finland currently sit second in Group D joint on five points with Ukraine.
Fashion Jr - Zambia
Thursday 7 October - Equatorial Guinea v Zambia - WC2022 Qualifier - 5pm
Sunday 10 October - Zambia v Equatorial Guinea - WC2022 Qualifier - 5pm
Fashion Jr has been called-up to the Zambia national team as they look to book their place at the 2022 World Cup.
They face two matches against Equatorial Guinea, firstly away on Thursday evening before at home on Sunday.
Ianis Hagi – Romania
Friday 8 October - Germany v Romania - WC2022 Qualifier - 7.45pm
Monday 11 October - Romania v Armenia - WC2022 Qualifier - 7.45pm
It’s a crucial two games for Romania in their World Cup qualifying campaign as they face first and second place in Group J.
Currently sitting just behind them in third, it could be a big two games for Romania in their hopes of qualifying for the tournament.
Kemar Roofe – Jamaica
Friday 8 October - USA v Jamaica - WC2022 Qualifier - 12.30am
Sunday 10 October - Jamaica v Canada - WC2022 Qualifier - 11pm
After making his debut for Jamaica last month against Panama, Kemar has been called up to the squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifying matches.
Jamaica face a trip to face the United States of America in the early hours of Friday morning, before hosting Canada on Sunday evening.
Juninho Bacuna – Curacao
Wednesday 6 October - Bahrain v Curacao - Friendly - 5pm
Saturday 9 October - Curacao v New Zealand - Friendly 5pm
Juninho is away on international duty with Curacao as they play two friendlies this international break.
They kick-off tomorrow evening with a trip away to Bahrain, before hosting New Zealand at the weekend.
Calvin Bassey, Leon Balogun, Joe Aribo – Nigeria
Thursday October 7 - Nigeria v Central African Republic - WC2022 Qualifier - 5pm
Sunday October 10 - Central African Republic v Nigeria - WC2022 Qualifier - 2pm
Calvin Bassey has been named in the Nigeria squad for the first time, joining Gers teammates Leon Balogum and Joe Aribo in representing their country.
They continue their World Cup qualifying campaign with two matches against Central African Republic on Thursday and Sunday.
Borna Barisic – Croatia
Friday October 8 - Cyprus v Croatia - WC2022 Qualifier -7.45pm
Monday October 11 - Croatia v Slovakia - WC2022 Qualifier - 7.45pm
Croatia will look to continue their strong start to Group H firstly with a trip to Cyprus before hosting Slovakia on Monday evening.
Borna’s Croatia currently top the group on goal difference, currently sitting on 13 points alongside Russia, with four wins, one draw and one defeat in the opening matches.
