In this week’s instalment, 17-year-old goalkeeper Mason Munn chats through his upbringing in Northern Ireland, his ‘amazing’ Old Firm experience, and the player that he would least enjoy being stranded on a desert island alongside.
The teenage goalkeeper, who joined the club full-time in 2022, has made the transition into the B Team this season after spending last season with the Under-18s.
In the meantime, he has been capped by Northern Ireland at Under-19 level as the Green and White Army prepare for a European Championships on home soil this summer.
When did you join Rangers? I joined the club in the summer of 2022 after coming over from Northern Ireland.
Who was your first boyhood club? I started out at Abbey Villa who are an amateur team in Northern Ireland.
Have you always been a goalkeeper or did you play any other positions in the past? I have always been a goalkeeper right from the very start of my young career.
Who was your football hero growing up and why? I would probably go with Manuel Neuer because of how comfortable he is with the ball at his feet.
What is the first ever Rangers game that you can remember attending? It was an Old Firm when I came over on one of my training sessions for Rangers as a 14-year-old. The club got me tickets and it was an amazing experience.
What is your go-to pre-match meal? I keep it fairly simple and go with a bagel and scrambled egg.
What is your favourite cheat meal? There are a few to choose from, but I’d go with a Domino’s pizza.
Do you enjoy playing/watching any other sports? I enjoy watching golf.
What is currently your favourite TV show? I’m very big into Peaky Blinders at the minute.
What is your best memory in football so far? Representing Northern Ireland at the European Championships was an incredible experience.
Who is your favourite band or artist? I’ll go for Take That which is a slightly left field answer.
Messi or Ronaldo? Most of the boys in the dressing room would go for Ronaldo, but I’d definitely go for Messi.
Who are your three dream dinner guests, dead or alive? Manuel Neuer has got to be one, then I’d go Roy Carroll for the Northern Irish goalkeeping connection, and The King who would be pretty interesting.
What is something you have always wanted to achieve in life away from football? It’s a tough one, but I just want to be successful and live a happy life.
Most famous person in your contacts list? Gareth McAuley who is my coach with Northern Ireland.
Favourite holiday destination? Maldives. A stunning part of the world.
Favourite subject in school? It’s a boring answer, but P.E.
Your first pair of football boots? I’m trying to think back now, but I believe it was Nike Hypervenom’s.
Which player in the B Team would you least want to be stuck on a desert island with and why? There are a few definitely. But I’ll go with Zak Lovelace because I would be fed up with him after ten minutes!
