RANGERS latest recruit Thelo Aasgaard sat down with us to answer some questions in our Getting to Know feature.
The 23-year-old completed a permanent switch to the Gers over the weekend as Russell Martin continues to build his squad ahead of the new campaign.
Here’s what the Norwegian international had to say on his early football days, ability at other sports growing up, hidden musical talent and more.
What is your full name?
Thelonious Gerard Aasgaard but people will know me as Thelo
Is there any particular meaning behind your middle name? Being from Liverpool?
No, it is my mum's granddad's name
What was your earliest or first memory of playing football?
Probably playing for Mossley Hill my local team in Liverpool, at seven or eight years old, just enjoying little five-a-side games and tournaments
Who were your influences in football growing up? What made you get into the game?
I grew up a big Liverpool fan so I watched Gerrard and Torres
What is the first football match you remember attending?
My uncle actually worked for Tottenham back in the day so he took me to Wembley to watch a semi-final against Portsmouth or Birmingham I can't remember
What are the biggest differences you noticed when jumping from youth football to senior football?
Definitely the physicality, especially League One and the EFL there is some rough teams and a lot of games so you have to build up a robustness, I felt like I did that
You are number 11, what does it mean to wear that number?
I wore it a little bit in the youth teams with Norway and with Wigan as well
What has been your proudest career moment so far?
Definitely my international debut and getting a goal and an assist
Were you into any other sports growing up?
A bit of table tennis, a bit of tennis here and there. I also played Futsal quite a lot when I was 14/15. I actually got asked to play for England Under-19s but Wigan wouldn't let me because it's a different sport
You are into music and you parents have a musical background, tell us about that?
I am from a family just full of musicians, I am actually the odd one out being into sports, I have got quite a big musical influence and I do a little bit myself
What type of music do you produce?
I do like Hip-pop beats, bit of rap music, some afro beats in the summer, I really enjoy it
Initiation song?
The Norwegian national anthem, it is an easy one and quick one
Any other hobbies other than that away from the pitch?
I love my to take my dog on a walk, where we live down south there are some really nice places and areas and I think when I move here I will look for some green spaces to take him on a walk
Do you have any superstitions before a match?
Not really, pretty basic, I'll do a bit of some visualisation and just take some time to myself to reflect on good times and how I can impact the game
What is your go-to cheat meal?
A burger
What is your favourite social media platform?
How would you describe yourself in three words?
Kind, independent and confident
What would you say is the best part of your game?
My finishing, I love scoring goals
