Gio Has Full Confidence His Squad Are Ready

The boss believes his side have the ability to regroup and recover from Wednesday’s UEFA Europa League Final loss as they turn full focus to Hampden in a bid for domestic silverware.

Speaking to the media at the pre-match press conference, van Bronckhorst said: “It took a lot out of us but we had a good recovery today and I have a lot of confidence in my team and their ability to regroup and recover from big games.

“Wednesday was a big game for us, we didn't have the outcome we wanted but overall it was a good experience for my team to play in such a big game. It is part of the game that when you are in finals you have come so far and even though you are very close to achieving silverware the disappointment will be very big.

“We have another game tomorrow and it is a very important game because it can mean that we win silverware this season. That is what we want and that is our focus, I have full confidence that my team will be ready tomorrow.”

The boss provided an update on his squad with Borna Barisic set to miss out on tomorrow’s final however, the rest of the squad from Wednesday evening are fit and available.

Jon McLaughlin has featured in the Scottish Cup run this season and when asked about his goalkeeper selection for tomorrow, van Bronckhorst said: “I have started Jon in the cup campaign this year, he has done really well in all the games we played especially in the semi-final against Celtic so for me it would be strange to change him.

“We gave him our confidence in the cup competitions so he will still have the confidence tomorrow from me and my staff.

“It is a difficult one because Allan [McGregor] of course is our number one goalkeeper but he was very thoughtful and could totally understand that we are playing Jon in the cup competitions so Allan will push Jon and will guide and support him tomorrow.”
