Gio Proud Of Winning Performance

GIOVANNI Van Bronckhorst said that he was ‘very proud' of his team’s winning performance as they defeated Sparta Prague at Ibrox this evening in the Europa League.

The new Rangers manager spoke to the press this evening following his team’s 2-0 victory against Pavel Vrba’s side.

Van Bronckhorst reflected on his first game as the new manager in front of a full Ibrox and insisted it was a proud performance as the squad secured Europa League knockout for a third-successive season.

He said: “It was very positive of course; I think we had a good performance for the 90 minutes. I think that the first half was very good, we created a lot of chances.

“I’m very proud of the team and how they reacted after Sunday, although we only had two training sessions, I think that they did the game plan very well.

"The second goal put us through to the next round which was the ultimate goal for today. For us as a club, it is fantastic to be involved with Europe after the winter break.

“I’m very proud of my team. The goals from Morelos, the performance of the midfield and the back four players were excellent, and [Allan] McGregor made some fantastic saves. Overall, it was a very good team performance.”

Van Bronckhorst expressed his emotions following the warm welcome from the Rangers support tonight and said it made his return incredibly special.

He added: “It was incredible. For me, it is very special to be back at the club. I had wonderful European nights and memories of my time here but going out as my first time as the manager is something special for me.

"The most important thing was to go out and win the game by a margin of two. It was truly special, and I enjoyed every moment of it.”
