The Light Blues ran out 1-0 winners over their city rivals in Airdrie to put themselves back in the mix to retain the league title as they responded in the best possible fashion.
Speaking to RangersTV after the match the winger credited the team for the character they showed to pick up a massive win at the Excelsior Stadium in the derby.
She said: “We are delighted with the three points; coming off the back of a disappointing result at the weekend we were coming here to put things right no matter who the opposition was, but it was nice to just get the three points against Celtic.
“Kirsty took her goal excellently and we put our bodies on the line and we showed real character.
“A win was what we needed regardless but coming off that disappointing result, we were really strong in our performance.”
Hay played her part in the decisive moment as her pass lead to Kirsty Howat breaking the deadlock from the edge of the area as she praised the striker for her contribution on the night and the team for persisting as they went in search of the opener.
She continued: “We have seen her do it many times, she is excellent at it, she has scored some big goals for us this season so to get that one is massive.
“It was just about being patient and sticking to the game plan, if we all work hard for each other then we will know we will get chances and moments and we need to take them. Kirsty took her chance really well and it was an excellent finish, we are just delighted with it.”
The 24-year-old says the side must treat every game between now and the end of the season as a must win if they are to go in search of retaining the league title as the Gers now sit five points off leaders Glasgow City with four matches remaining.
She added: “We know what we are capable of, it is just about putting that on the pitch in the big moments and games and treating every game like a cup final now because we need the three points in every one. From now until the end of the season we will put everything into it and will leave everything on the pitch.”
