The big defender made his first appearance in Light Blue competitively since December - and prior to that, he played in five group stage matches as Gers defeated both Feyenoord and Porto.
On the mammoth campaign, he told Rangers TV in Leverkusen tonight: "I think we have learned a lot. We have played against good opponents the full way and they are fun games to play.
"This task was too tough for us this time, but we have enjoyed it when you look back on it.
"It is always disappointing. We wanted to give it a real try and obviously today's performance wasn't good enough to beat a team like this.
"But when we look back at it, I think we have done, in general, very well."
Helander played the full 90 minutes in the end-up as he continues his comeback from injury, and he continued: "It is getting better all the time in training, and to get 90 minutes today was very good for me personally.
"So I hope I can be ready to contribute to the team going forward."
