The 16-year-old had been working with the Rangers Academy coach in the lead-up to the game, and was delighted to get a goal on his Ibrox debut.
Speaking to RangersTV after the 2-0 victory against Wrexham he said: “We were going through a few of his goals a couple of days ago and he was honing in the message of get in and around the six-yard box that is where you are going to get your goals, be lethal, be alive.
“I saw right at the start of the first-half the keeper spilled one so when Barjo has got the ball he has taken a shot and I am thinking is he going spill it and then I managed to get my bit of luck and because I’m there I get the goal.”
Young-Coombes says confidence was high in the Gers squad, as they progressed into the last four of the competition.
He continued: “It was an unbelievable game, from the start we looked so confident we knew that we were going to get the victory.
The young striker has been on form recently also netting in the 5-0 Youth Cup victory over Celtic and in the UEFA Youth League.
He believes the environment and feel of the squad is helping him play at his best.
He said: “I am always confident, not just because I am scoring but because of the fans and my teammates.
“It was my first time playing at Ibrox, a lot of the boys have played here before so they were telling me about the occasion but it is where I want to be and hopefully in a couple of years I am playing here more consistently.”
