RANGERS will be represented at the European Championships this summer in Germany through Ianis Hagi, which kicks off tomorrow evening.
The 25-year-old midfielder has been called into the Romania squad and will compete in Group E alongside Belgium, Slovakia and Ukraine.
Coached by Edward Iordanescu, Romania arrive in Germany having topped their qualifying group without tasting a single defeat.
Ianis has been a regular fixture for his country in recent years – boasting over 30 caps after making his debut as a 20-year-old – and was on the scoresheet in victories over Andorra and Israel during European Championship qualifying last year.
Indeed, the midfielder spent last season on loan with La Liga side Alaves where he made over 25 appearances.
He is a trusted member of the Romania squad and sported the captain’s armband in the recent European Championships warm-up stalemate against Lichtenstein.
Similarly, Ianis netted in the 3-2 defeat to Colombia in a friendly clash back in March, and Romania will look to the 25-year-old once again to provide creativity and drive in midfield.
Hagi is joined in the Romania squad by Tottenham central defender, Radu Dragusin, while Nicolae Stanciu, who netted against the Light Blues in the Europa League knockout stages in March 2021, and George Puscas are reliable performers.
Romania will open their European Championships campaign against Ukraine on Monday afternoon in Munich.
Hagi and his side will then meet group favourites Belgium on Saturday, June 22, before squaring off against Slovakia in Frankfurt four days later.
