The Northern Ireland legend, who has earned 107 caps for his country, has cherished memories from his previous stint at Ibrox from January 2008 to July 2012. During this time he played a key role in three SPL title successes and also got his hands on the Scottish Cup twice and the League Cup on three occasions.
Davis is incredibly proud of what he achieved back then working under Walter Smith and he wants to help bring the good times back this season with Steven Gerrard now at the helm and taking the club forward in an impressive manner, with England’s Jermain Defoe also signing on loan for the Light Blues in the last 48 hours.
On his first spell at Rangers, Davis – speaking exclusively to RangersTV at the club’s winter training base in Tenerife – recalls: “It was a great period for the club, a great period for me personally in my career as well. Those are memories I will want to try and replicate once again.
“So I’m looking forward to seeing up close the players and getting to know each other on and off the pitch. Hopefully, come the end of the season, with a lot of hard work, we can achieve something.
“This is is a perfect opportunity for me to be away with the group and be in a confined space for a period of time.
“It will be really good chance for me and obviously Jermain when he comes in as well to get to know the boys a lot better.
“I know one or two faces already and hopefully I’m not rooming with one of them! But it’s great to be here and looking forward to the future.
“He has scored goals wherever he has gone and anybody that I’ve know that has played with him have said what a good finisher he is.
“I think he is going to be a great addition to the squad and I’m sure he will bang in plenty of goals for the team.”
Davis returns to Rangers having endured a frustrating first half to the 2018/19 season with Southampton.
He only made half a dozen appearances for the Saints as well as playing in five international matches, but he is confident he can hit the ground running in Scotland, just as he did 10 years ago in January 2008 when he moved to Ibrox for the first time on loan from Fulham.
He added: “You miss playing and obviously I haven’t had the game time I would have liked in the last six months so I can’t wait to get out there on the pitch. Hopefully it won’t take me too long to get up to speed.
“But I’m looking forward to getting a good week of training under my belt this week, getting amongst the boys and getting to know them a bit better. I’m sure once we get back [to Scotland] we will all be raring to go.
“The team has done an excellent job. They’ve obviously started pre-season early on with the qualifiers in Europe and were very unlucky not to qualify from the group as well.
“Domestically they have put in a run of really strong first half of the season, so we know there is a lot of hard work to do but I think we are on the right track.”
