The Development head coach praised the first-half display as goals from Josh McPake, Glenn Middleton and Jamie Barjonas had the Light Blues 3-0 ahead at the break.
Speaking to Rangers TV, he said: “It was a good test, it was good to blow the cobwebs off.
“Some of our play in the first-half was really good and really incisive. It was good to see some of our players who have been out on loan coming and fitting back into the group and socially interacting well with the younger players and it was exactly what we needed.
“The game is never over at 45 we need to maintain our standards and I thought we struggled a little bit in the second half to match the standards we had set in the first half but that is good and it is good learning for our young players.
“I thought we were quite sloppy in our distribution, we were quite self-indulgent and I thought at times the players felt as though it was going to be a little bit easy because it was three.
Kieran McKechnie returned from injury after over 8 months on the sidelines and Murty was delighted to have him back involved.
He added: “He has just had a little ripple from the players there because everyone knows what it is like when you are injured.
“It is hard and it can be a dark dark place at times when you are struggling a little bit but it is made for him to come back onto a pitch like this and get half an hour with his mates that he hasn’t had for a while.
“He has got a big smile on his face, he’s feeling a little bit tired but in a good way. I’m really pleased for him and hopefully he can put that bit to bed now and really move forward.”
