The Gers now head into the final nine games of their campaign, four before the split, looking to take maximum points during the run-in.
Speaking to the media in the press conference ahead of tomorrow’s away match against St Mirren, he commented: “It is massively important, the old cliches that have already been said, have been said. It really is a matter of winning every game that comes up in front of us.
“Not on what happens around us, the two sides above us are going to be playing before, whatever happens, happens.
“The only thing that matters is what we do on Sunday against St Mirren.
“For sure, we've seen how quickly it can change over the course of a week or two. 27 points to play for, someone goes and wins all their games, wherever it is us or anybody else, then it is doable.
“Anything is doable, and we are really looking forward to that challenge.
“One step at a time, starts on Sunday, but we have a brilliant opportunity, and people need to remember that.
“Need to see that, as difficult as it may be to forget the last couple of weeks and how you could make that define your season if you wanted to, we can't allow it to.
“We have got to take it in our stride and enjoy what is to come in the next couple of months.”
The shot stopper has urged the group to embrace the challenge in front of them, with the belief that in the ranks, they are capable of achieving success this season.
He continued: “It is just focus and enjoy it, enjoy the challenge. Enjoy the fact that we play for an incredible football club.
“Enjoy the fact that we have an opportunity which so many people didn't believe we were ever going to have this year.
“I know people will make a lot about the results over the last couple of weeks, but we have gone into those games with an awful amount of belief.
“Two weeks ago, the performance that we put in for the first half, you don't go into those games and play like that without that level of belief.
“Even the quarter-final, where it might not have been the best display from either side overall, but the confidence that we showed and the belief that we showed to dominate possession in the game, where we haven't always done.
“I know a lot has been made about the result of it, but I don't think that is a team that is struggling for belief or confidence.
“I don't think there is anything that would look back at this group in September or October last year and think it was capable.
“The fact that we are having these discussions now shows that we have absolutely answered those questions already.
“You get to this end of the season, and one draw is like a complete downing opinion of everybody that we are not good enough anymore, and that is just the nature of playing at this football club and what is expected of you.
“We have been in a lot worse positions than we are right now. We are not in a bad position at all; we are in a great position, with the opportunity within a couple of weekends. Best-case scenario, you could be right there, you could even be sitting at the top, that is how close it still is.
“There is definitely not a feeling that things are out of reach, that we are not capable.
“I look around the squad and see people, and I see a lot of energy and a lot of people that are really excited for the last nine games of the season.
“We have been involved and got close a couple of times, but we have a real opportunity and a belief that we can do it.
“It is what I came here for, and it is what is driving me on, looking forward to what's to come.”
Tomorrow’s opposition are now without a manager after Stephen Robinson’s departure to Aberdeen, but Butland says it will spring a surprise in what they do, but knows that the team are ready for whatever their opponents throw at them.
He added: “It creates a little bit of an unknown. They have changed the way that they have played a little bit over the last month or so, even before his departure, who hadn't played since, but there have been a few changes.
“What you can expect is a St Mirren that, when they are up, is a physically demanding side to play against, and we have got to be at.
“We have got to be ready for it, with the manager obviously now being gone, it will be interesting to see what they do, but we will be prepared for it either way and will take them head on, on Sunday.”
