Philippe Clement’s men head for Parkhead in what is a huge fixture in the race for the title, and Butland insists they are ready for the match.
Speaking to the media at this afternoon’s pre-match press conference, he said: “These are the games that you want to be involved in, these are the games that will live long in the memory of people, and you have got the opportunity to create an end to the season that could be really really positive for us.
“It is certainly the way I am looking at it, it is an opportunity to do something special for this football club and one that I hope we grasp and that we take.
“The pressure is inevitable when you play for this club, it is something we have all had to deal with all season, it is part and parcel of it so we are excited and looking forward to the challenge.”
Butland says Rangers must manage the game well to give themselves a good platform over the 90 minutes. He continued: “We have shown in various games this season that we have the ability to go ahead early and stay there. We have had games where we have gone behind and had to fight back, and games we have dominated from start to finish so you don't quite know how it is going to go tomorrow.
“It is a big clash, ultimately there are going to be ups and downs during the game, but it is important that we manage it well, we start well, and if we do that, we give ourselves a really good platform to build on.
“We have been strong late in games, we have the ability to do that and with the squad that we have to bring people on to make a difference, so it is important we are in the game to start and we are not fighting an uphill battle.
“We take a lot of heart in the fact that in the games we have created chances and we have created opportunities so it is an opportunity for us to learn from that, to go there with a lot of belief and confidence that we can cause problems and we need to do that and be defensively solid and confident that we can take something.”
When asked about past derby matches, Butland says the squad are focused on the game ahead. He added: “There is always another game, there is always another opportunity, there have been periods through history where one team has had more success than the other and it swings back and forth.
“It is an opportunity for us, the past is not a concern to me. I know people would like to address that and make a big deal about it, but I can assure you that for this group it is about the next game.
“It is about wanting to be successful and trying to achieve something, so it is an exciting opportunity for us we haven't even spoken about the past to be honest with you. It is about what is next and how we can move forward as a team and ultimately win the game.”
